System requirements

• Windows 10 or Windows 11, 64-bit (x64), with administrator permission to install.
• macOS 12 or later on a Mac with Apple silicon (M1 or later). Intel-based Macs are not supported yet.
• An internet connection to download the installer, sign in, buy pages and get updates.

What’s in DocHush

Version 1.0 for Windows and version 1.1 for Mac have the same features; the higher number marks the first macOS release.

• Automatic detection on your computer. Local AI and pattern rules suggest names, contact details, account numbers and other identifiers, including text recognized on scanned pages.
• Review before anything changes. Accept or reject each suggestion, search for words you need removed and add your own marks for anything detection missed.
• Image-only export with verification. Approved areas are burned into rebuilt page images, and DocHush reopens the saved PDF to check the approved regions within a stated scope.
• An encrypted local workspace. Your documents and review progress are saved on your computer and are not uploaded.

Install on Windows

1. Download the installer. It includes the detection and text recognition models, so the file is large.
2. Open the downloaded file. The installer is not code-signed yet, so your browser may say the file is not commonly downloaded, and Windows SmartScreen may show “Windows protected your PC”. If you downloaded the file from this page, keep it, then select More info and Run anyway.
3. Approve the administrator prompt and select Install. Setup installs DocHush for all users in Program Files; to choose another install folder, select Options first.
4. Open DocHush from the Start menu or the desktop shortcut. On the first launch, it closes and reopens once while it sets up its encrypted workspace.

To confirm that the download is complete and unchanged, compare its SHA-256 with the value above. In PowerShell, open the folder that contains the file and runGet-FileHash .\DocHush-Setup-1.0.0-x64.exe; PowerShell shows the same value in capital letters.

Install on Mac

1. Download the disk image. It includes the detection and text recognition models, so the file is large.
2. Open the disk image and drag DocHush to the Applications folder, then eject the disk image. Start DocHush from Applications: a copy that runs from the disk image or the Downloads folder cannot install its updates.
3. DocHush is signed with an Apple Developer ID and notarized, so macOS opens it without a security warning. On the first launch it sets up its encrypted workspace and keeps the key in your login keychain.

To confirm that the download is complete and unchanged, open Terminal and runshasum -a 256 ~/Downloads/DocHush-1.1.0-mac-arm64.dmg, then compare the result with the value above.

Sign in to save

You can open, scan and review a PDF without an account. To save the redacted copy, sign in or create an account in the app; a new account is confirmed with a code sent to your email. Your Free plan includes 5 pages.

Before each save, DocHush shows how many pages it will use. Every page of the source PDF counts, and only after the verified file is saved. Pages you already saved in the same project are not charged again.

Accounts and checkout are provided by iToolPaw. Pages and plans you buy belong to the account you use at checkout, so sign in to DocHush with that account. Manage your account and Annual renewal in iToolPaw My Account.

Pricing

• Free: a one-time allowance of 5 pages, with no credit card required.
• Page packs: 20 pages for $9 or 100 pages for $29. Purchased pages do not expire.
• Annual: $79 per year for one person, with unlimited pages while subscribed. Renews yearly; you can cancel the renewal at any time.

Every plan includes the same detection, OCR, review and verification. Purchases are made through iToolPaw checkout under iToolPaw’s terms and conditions and privacy policy.

Offline once set up

Detection, text recognition, review, export and verification run on your computer and keep working while disconnected; PDFs are not uploaded. Signing in, buying pages and updates need an internet connection. DocHush checks downloads.dochush.com for a new version once a day, downloads it in the background and installs it only after you choose Restart to install in Settings → Software updates.

Input limits

DocHush accepts PDFs up to 32 MiB and 100 pages and is designed for English documents. Encrypted files, interactive PDF forms and files with PDF annotations are not accepted. A scanned picture of a form is different from an interactive form.

Understand the output

DocHush creates image-based PDFs. Searchable text, copying, links, form fields, original digital signatures and accessibility features are not preserved. This tradeoff matters if your recipient needs any of those features.

Check the saved copy

DocHush verifies each saved PDF within a stated scope. For a second check in any browser, the free PDF redaction checker reports what it examined and what it could not verify.
